BAN vs PAK: Pakistan opener scores century in debut Test, name among 14 players, this happened after 17 years:

Azan Awais Century: Which batsman doesn’t aspire to a century? But if that century comes from the bat as soon as he steps on the international cricket pitch, then that batsman’s fortunes change completely. Something similar is the case with Pakistan’s 21-year-old opener Azan Awais. Azan Awais got a chance to debut in the first match of the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. And then he scored a century in his debut innings itself. After this success, not only was his name included in the top 14 players, but Pakistan cricket also witnessed something which had not happened for 17 years.

Pakistan’s Azan Awais scored a century on his Test debut.

Azan Awais scored a century on the third day of the first Pakistan-Bangladesh Test in Dhaka. Opening the innings for Pakistan, he scored 103 runs off 165 balls, including 14 fours. However, Azan Awais’s century in his debut innings came off the 152nd ball. He became the 14th batsman to score a century on his Test debut for Pakistan.

Name registered among 14 players

The Pakistani batsmen who scored centuries on their Test debut before Azaan Awais include Kamran Ghulam, Abid Ali, Umar Akmal, Fawad Alam, Yasir Hameed, Taufiq Umar, Younis Khan, Azhar Mahmood, Ali Naqvi, M. Wasim, Saleem Malik, Javed Miandad and Khalid Ibdullah.

Third Pakistani to do so, this happened after 17 years

Azan Awais is the 14th batsman to score a century on Test debut for Pakistan, but only the third to do so outside home. He ended a 17-year wait. The previous centuries on Test debut in Pakistan were scored by Fawad Alam against Sri Lanka and Umar Akmal against New Zealand. Both of these batsmen achieved this feat in 2009. Now, Azan Awais’s name has been added to that list, scoring a century on Test debut in Bangladesh in 2026, 17 years later.
