Banas Bio-CNG – Banas Model” inaugurated by Amit Shah at Agathala

Palanpur, December 6, 2025: Banas Bio-CNG – Banas Model inaugurated Adding a new chapter in the development of Banaskantha, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah inaugurated the “Banas Bio-CNG – Banas Model” plant established in Agathala by unveiling a plaque. He visited the entire plant and learned its working method. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amitbhai Shah had interacted with the cattle rearing women associated with Banas Dairy regarding farming, animal husbandry, honey farming, potato farming and linseed farming.
The launch of this project has given impetus to the rural economy in the dairy sector and has opened the way for additional income, clean energy and revolutionary improvement in soil health for the farmers in the district. On this occasion, Assembly Speaker Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Minister Swaroopji Thakor, former MP Parbatbhai Patel were present.
Key Features of Bio-CNG – Banas Model Plant
Direct purchase of cow dung cakes:
The plant sells cow dung at Rs. per kg. Available for purchase at the rate of 1. Till now, a total of 5.5 crore kg of curd has been purchased, due to which the farmers of 30 km radius are getting stable income.
Daily Capacity and Benefits:
Agathala Biogas Plant processes 1,00,000 kg of cow dung every day, whose direct benefit area extends to about 30 km.
Bio-CNG Production:
The plant produces 1,900 kg of bio-CNG daily. Here bio-CNG is available through onsite CNG pump at market price of Rs. 2 are available at low rates.
Bhoomi Amrit – High Quality Organic Fertilizers:
Certified solid and liquid organic fertilizers named “Bhoomi Amrit” are prepared from the processed slurry. These fertilizers are helpful in improving soil health, increasing productivity and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Significant reduction in carbon emissions:
Running with a capital investment of Rs 58 crore and an annual operating cost of Rs 12 crore, this plant reduces carbon emissions by 6,750 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent every year.
At present, the process of setting up 5 such plants is progressing in a phased manner. A target has been set to start a total of 25 plants in Banaskantha in the coming time, which will make the district the country’s leading model in the field of organic farming, waste management and clean energy.
Special benefits for farmers
This project has created an excellent circular economy by converting dairy waste into value added products along with additional income from cow buttermilk. By using “Bhoomi Amrit” fertilizer, the nutrition of the soil remains intact and more yield can be obtained. Also, the bio-CNG produced every day provides a clean alternative to fossil fuels.
This plant is becoming a unique step towards sustainable development of Banaskantha, cow-based economy and environmental protection, which can be considered as Banas model in true sense.
