Dispute increased again on the border! Bangladesh accuses India of ‘illegal immigrants’; Know what is the whole matter
The issue of illegal immigrants has once again become important in the talks between India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh alleges that Indian security agencies are trying to send illegal immigrants across its border. Dhaka claims that several such attempts were made in the last 24 hours, which were foiled by its border security agency. Bangladesh says that border related issues should be resolved through legal and diplomatic procedures established between the two countries. Meanwhile, these incidents have sparked a new debate regarding border management and identification of illegal migrants.
BGB increased surveillance on the border
Bangladesh’s border security force, ‘Border Guard Bangladesh’ (BGB) claims to have stopped several suspicious activities in recent times. According to the agency, surveillance has been increased in the border areas and extra precautions are being taken to prevent any kind of illegal movement. BGB also said that anyone crossing the border or coming back will have to follow the rules and mutual agreements of both the countries. The agency said security measures have been tightened following reports of an alleged attempt to send people across the border in Jhenaidah area.
Common border more than 4,000 kilometers long
There is more than 4,000 km long international border between India and Bangladesh, which is considered one of the most complex and sensitive borders in the world. This border passes through Indian states like West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. Border management has always been a challenge for both the countries due to geographical conditions, river-drain area and population density. Issues related to illegal infiltration, smuggling and identification of citizens have often been a topic of discussion between the two countries.
Keep an eye on the meeting to be held in Delhi
Amidst the border dispute and the issue of illegal immigrants, high-level talks are going to take place between the two countries. A meeting between the chiefs of border security forces of India and Bangladesh is proposed in New Delhi from June 8 to 11. Many important issues including border management, illegal immigration, security cooperation and cross-border activities are expected to be discussed in this meeting. Diplomatic experts believe that this meeting can play an important role in reducing the growing tension between the two countries and taking the dialogue process forward.
Stir in Bangladesh politics
Amidst the border dispute, important developments have also come to light in the domestic politics of Bangladesh. Senior Awami League leader and former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, Celina Hayat, has been released after getting bail. His release is being seen as an important development in Bangladeshi politics. Earlier, other senior leaders associated with Awami League had also got relief in legal matters.
