Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joti reprimanded for ICC Code of Conduct violation
Sports Sports: Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Joti has been officially reprimanded for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the third Women’s T20 International played against Sri Lanka.
This match was played in Sylhet on Saturday. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Nigar Sultana has been found guilty of a Level 1 offence. He breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with the misuse of cricket equipment or on-field objects during an international match.
The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s batting innings, when Nigar Sultana threw her bat on the ground in frustration while leaving the field after being dismissed. His behavior was considered in the category of indiscipline.
ICC said in its statement that the player has accepted his mistake in this matter and has also accepted the punishment given by the match referee. For this reason there was no need for any formal hearing.
Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees decided the punishment. Along with the reprimand, one demerit point has also been added to Nigar Sultana’s disciplinary record.
As per ICC rules, this is his first offense in a period of 24 months, hence the case falls under Level 1 minimum action.
Such matters in cricket are viewed as a breach of discipline and spirit of the game, and players are warned to control their behavior in future.
At present, Nigar Sultana remains in the leadership of the team, but this incident has definitely increased the discussion about her behavior and emotional control on the field.
