Bangladesh’s stance changed on IPL: First ban on telecast, now ‘green signal’… Is the decision related to India tour?

Digital Desk, Busted. Bangladesh’s stance regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL) has now completely changed. While earlier the telecast was banned, now the new government has made it clear that there will be no ban on IPL telecast. Actually, after the release of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026, there was tension in the relations between Bangladesh Cricket Board and Board of Control for Cricket in India. Amidst this controversy, the then Mohammad Yunus government took a big step and refused to send the team to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. After this, the International Cricket Council included Scotland in the tournament instead of Bangladesh. Not only this, at that time the telecast of IPL was also banned in Bangladesh, due to which the cricket fans were surprised.

Now the stance has changed, clear message from the government

The situation has completely changed after the change of government. Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Zaheer Uddin Swapan has clearly said that the government wants to keep sports and politics separate. “If any channel wants to telecast IPL, we will look at it in a positive light. We will not ban any telecast,” he said.

Cable operators also indicated

Cable Operators Association official Rezaul Karim Labloo also clarified that at present there is no ban on IPL telecast. If Star Sports or any other channel wants to show the match, it can be telecast.

Signs are connecting with India tour

Now questions are being raised on the timing of this decision. Actually, in September this year, India has to play three ODI and three T20 matches on Bangladesh tour. In such a situation, leniency on IPL is also being seen as a ‘diplomatic signal’. Although the government has not directly linked it to the India tour, but from the changed stance it is clear that the cricket relations between the two countries may soften again.
