The whole controversy started when Bangladesh wrote two letters to the International Cricket Council (ICC) requesting to move its matches of T20 World Cup 2026 out to India. BCB Director Nazmul Islam had given a very controversial statement during this period. He had said that if Bangladesh withdraws from the T20 World Cup, it will not cause any financial loss to the board, but the players will have to bear the loss because they will not get the match fees. After Nazmul Islam’s statement, Bangladeshi players came forward openly. Under the leadership of Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh, players announced boycott of cricket activities. This protest also affected the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where players refused to participate in the matches. Seeing the worsening of the situation, many BCB officials met Welfare Association President Mohammad Mithun, but the players’ demand was clear that Nazmul Islam should be removed from the post.

What was the official decision of BCB?

In the press release issued by Bangladesh Cricket Board, it was said that after reviewing the recent incidents, in the interest of the organization, it has been decided to relieve Nazmul Islam from the post of Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect. According to the report of ESPN, the BCB President will hold the responsibility of acting chairman of the Finance Committee till further orders. The interests of the players are the top priority of the board. The Board is fully committed to maintaining the honor and dignity of all the players under its jurisdiction.
