Bangladesh Election Result: Tariq Rahman will be the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh, BNP’s big victory in the general elections.

Bangladesh Election Result: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has registered a “decisive victory” in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections on Friday. After which it is considered certain that Tariq Rehman will be elected as the new Prime Minister of the country. This was the first major election in Bangladesh after the overthrow and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the country. BNP is going to return to power after 20 years.

Votes were cast for parliamentary elections in Bangladesh on Thursday and counting of votes started in the evening itself. In the results that have come out so far, the alliance with Tariq Rehman’s party has won 209 seats and achieved two-thirds majority in the 300-member Jatiya Sangsad or the House of the Nation. It surpassed the 193 seats it had won in 2001. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami suffered a setback, being restricted to double-digit seats, while the results kept coming slowly, indicating the comeback of BNP.

BNP has congratulated the countrymen claiming victory in the elections but has appealed to the supporters not to celebrate. BNP said that instead of victory celebrations, workers and supporters should offer Friday prayers across the country and remember former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
