Bangladesh Elections 2026 : Voting for voters continues in Bangladesh on Thursday (February 12, 2026). These are the first elections since the student-led rebellion and political turmoil in August 2024 that ousted the government of longtime leader Sheikh Hasina. This parliamentary election is being considered an important test of the country’s democracy. In this election, three leaders are considered to be big contenders for the post of Prime Minister.

The Election Commission has made tight security arrangements, with nearly 1 million security personnel deployed – the largest such deployment in the country’s electoral history. Bangladesh’s 130 million registered voters will elect 299 MPs for 300 parliamentary seats in the 13th general election. The election results coming by Thursday night will decide the next Prime Minister. Actually, voting will continue till 4:30 PM local time; After which the counting of votes will start. By late Thursday night it will become clear whose government is being formed. However, the results are expected by Friday morning.
After the coup of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her leaving the country, till now an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was running in Bangladesh. But, now the neighboring country is going to get a new Prime Minister. Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s son and BNP leader Tariq Rehman is considered to be the biggest contender for this post. At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami party leader Shifukar Rehman and National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Naheed Islam are also important faces for the post of Prime Minister.
