Bangladesh: Former PM Khaleda Zia’s son Tariq Rehman returns to his country after 17 years, crowd gathered to welcome him.

Dhaka, 25 December. Tariq Rahman, son of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and working president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), returned home on Thursday after 17 years. Tariq landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11.41 am from the Biman Bangladesh flight. Thousands of BNP workers and supporters gathered on the streets to welcome him.

It is noteworthy that general elections are proposed in Bangladesh on 12 February next year. Tariq Rehman’s return to his country before the elections matters. This is also important because Awami League, the party of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been banned from participating in the Agama elections. In such a situation, if BNP wins the elections, Tariq Rahman can become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. His mother Khaleda Zia’s health is not good right now and the command of BNP is in the hands of Tariq.
