Dhaka: The interim government formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus has given a big blow to Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student unit of Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League, has been banned. Earlier, the office of Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus had said that the interim government would bar the Awami League and like-minded parties from participating in political activities.
After this statement from Mohammad Yunus' office, it seemed that the Bangladesh government may ban Awami League. However, till now only the student unit of Awami League has been banned. This action is being considered as the beginning. The special thing is that after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country, Mohammad Yunus had accused her of suppressing democracy. Not only this, he had claimed to re-establish the foundation of democracy in the country, after this action of the government, the promises of democracy seem to be in vain.
