Bangladesh: PM Modi may get invited to Tariq Rahman’s swearing-in, signs of friendship started coming after government formation

digital desk- After registering a historic victory in the general elections of Bangladesh, BNP has indicated to give a new direction to relations with India. Top party leader Humayun Kabir has informed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be invited to the possible swearing-in ceremony of party chief Tariq Rehman. Humayun Kabir, senior BNP leader and foreign policy advisor to Tariq Rehman, said in an interview that India is an important country in the region and the BNP’s foreign policy will lay special emphasis on making South Asia an influential and cooperative region. He said the plan to invite the Indian Prime Minister to the swearing-in ceremony should be seen as a “goodwill gesture”.

Positive signals towards diplomatic direction through invitation

Kabir said, “This region is very important for us. A major part of Tariq Rehman’s foreign policy is to establish South Asia as a strong and influential region. When you invite someone, you expect him to attend. Sending an invitation carries both a priority and a message.” He also indicated that time is short, but an attempt is being made to give a positive diplomatic signal through this invitation. This is being considered an important step towards strengthening India-Bangladesh relations.

BNP thanks PM Modi on social media platform

Meanwhile, BNP has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its official social media platform ‘X’. Prime Minister Modi had given a congratulatory message on the election victory of BNP. The party wrote in its message, “Hon’ble Narendra Modi, thank you very much. We are grateful for the way you have accepted the leadership of Mr. Tariq Rehman in leading BNP to a decisive victory in the national elections.” BNP said in its statement that this victory shows the faith of the people of Bangladesh in the democratic process and party leadership. The party also reiterated that it is committed to democratic values, inclusive politics and the continuous process of development.

PM Modi’s involvement will strengthen relations

Political analysts believe that if Prime Minister Modi attends the swearing-in ceremony, it can give new strength to the relations between the two countries. Recent years have seen increased trade, security and diplomatic cooperation between India and Bangladesh. Now all eyes are on when the formal invitation is sent and what response comes from the Government of India. If this visit happens, it will be seen as an important message in South Asian politics.
