Bangladesh Premier League: A major accident occurred in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The match between Dhaka Capitals and Rajshahi Warriors was about to begin at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, when suddenly Dhaka Capitals’ assistant coach Mahboob Ali Zaki collapsed on the field. Immediately the staff and medical team present there tried CPR. He was immediately taken to Al Haramain Hospital by ambulance, but doctors declared him dead. After Mehboob Ali Zaki suddenly fell on the field, all the players and staff present there were shocked. Dhaka Capitals officials said that Zaki had not complained of any health issues before the incident. Following the incident of collapse shortly before the match, players from several BPL teams were rushed to Sylhet hospital on Saturday.
As soon as the news of the incident spread, players of Sylhet Titans, Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals reached Al Haramain Hospital. Zaki had been in the news before when he teamed up with Taskin Ahmed after his action was scrutinized during the T20 World Cup in India in 2016.
Bangladesh Cricket Board has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Bangladesh cricket team’s specialist pace bowling coach Mahboob Ali Zaki. Mehboob Ali Zaki was 59 years old.
Mehboob Ali Zaki was a former fast bowler. He represented Comilla district in the National Cricket Championship and also played in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. After his playing career, Mehboob Ali Zaki devoted himself to coaching and player development. He joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in 2008 as a high performance coach and played a key role in the development of fast bowling in the country with his contributions.
