International insult to Bangladesh Premier League, ‘Player’ changed to ‘Palyer’

Delhi: While the final match of Bangladesh Premier League (WPL) 2026 was memorable in terms of cricket, a major lapse in the awards ceremony put the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in an uncomfortable situation. Pictures of this mistake, which came to light after the conclusion of the tournament, are becoming increasingly viral on social media.
BPL 2026 title goes to Rajshahi Warriors
In the Bangladesh final played on Friday, 23 January 2026, Rajshahi Warriors performed brilliantly and defeated Chattogram Royals by 63 runs. With this victory, Rajshahi Warriors won the BPL 2026 trophy. The team’s dominance was clearly visible in the final match and Chattogram Royals completely fell apart while chasing the target.
Player of the tournament gets honour, but also controversy
In the awards ceremony held after the match, Shoriful Islam of Chattogram Royals was chosen as the Player of the Tournament. He was given a prize money of Rs 10 lakh for his excellent performance. However, the playing card given during the felicitation ceremony became a topic of discussion.
Spelling mistake increased BCB’s problems
In the playing card handed over to Shoriful Islam along with the award, the word Player was misspelled. Palyer was written on the card instead of Player. As soon as this picture related to Bashundhara Cement BPL 2026, Powered by Walton Lift Award surfaced, people started raising questions on the functioning of the board on social media. Such a fundamental mistake in the final of a big tournament brought disgrace to BCB.
Bangladesh Cricket Board is already surrounded by controversies
This matter has come to light at a time when Bangladesh Cricket Board is already facing criticism at the international level. Bangladesh has taken a very strict stance regarding the T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7. The board refused to play in India and demanded ICC to change the venue.
Decision to withdraw from T20 World Cup
Despite ICC rejecting the demand for change of venue, Bangladesh Board remained firm on its decision. Ultimately Bangladesh decided to withdraw itself from the T20 World Cup. However, no official announcement has been made by the ICC on this decision yet.
This small mistake in the BPL final has not only raised questions on the image of the board, but has also increased its problems at a time when it is already embroiled in controversies on the global cricket stage.
