India-Bangladesh border dispute is heating up, Dhaka summons Indian High Commissioner

Dhaka: The border dispute between Bangladesh and India is increasing. Now Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma regarding border tension. The development came hours after Bangladesh alleged that India had violated the bilateral agreement. Also, India is trying to install fencing at five places on the Bangladesh border.

Verma was seen entering the ministry at around 3 pm. His meeting with Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin lasted for about 45 minutes. Although no official statement was issued by the interim government of Bangladesh regarding the discussions, officials confirmed that the High Commissioner has been summoned.

Bangladesh has lodged an objection to the ongoing construction work on the India-Bangladesh border. He has indicated that his stance on this issue is not going to soften. Retired Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, advisor to the Bangladesh Home Ministry, said that India will not be allowed to do any construction within 150 yards of the zero line of the India-Bangladesh border.
