Rumor became the cause of death

25 year old Dipu Chandra Das, living in Mymensingh area, had gone to his factory job as usual. He was an ordinary laborer, who used to support his family by working in a factory named ‘Pioneer Knit Composite’. But suddenly on Thursday night, rumors of blasphemy spread in the factory premises and surrounding areas. Without any investigation or knowing the truth, the angry mob targeted Deepu.

Tied to a tree and set on fire with kerosene

According to eyewitnesses, Deepu was first beaten badly and then tied to a tree. It is alleged that kerosene was poured on his body and set on fire. He died within some time. After the incident, the crowd fled from there, leaving behind a burnt body and a silence full of questions.

The family got the news from social media

Deepu’s father Ravilal Das got information about his son’s death not from any official but through social media. He told that first he saw the news on Facebook, then heard from people that his son had been killed. After some time a relative came and told that Deepu had been tied and burnt. It seemed as if a mountain of sorrow had fallen on the family.

Investigation revealed, allegations turned out to be false

About 48 hours after the murder, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of Bangladesh made a big revelation in a press conference. During investigation it became clear that no evidence related to blasphemy was found against Deepu. Despite this, an innocent young man lost his life. The government has so far talked about the arrest of many people in this case, but the question is whether this is enough justice?

Second incident: Innocent child burnt in the fire of politics

Meanwhile, another heart-wrenching incident came to light in Lakshmipur Sadar area. The house of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Bilal Hossain was locked from outside in the dark of night and set on fire by pouring petrol. Bilal’s seven year old daughter Ayesha Akhtar died on the spot in this fire.

Bilal’s two other daughters sustained serious burn injuries and have been referred to Dhaka. Bilal himself is also badly injured. His mother Hajra Begum told that she saw the house burning at night, but the doors were locked from outside. Somehow some people broke the door and came out, but Ayesha could not be saved.
