Bangladesh: Violence broke out after the death of anti-Sheikh Hasina leader, Hindu youth beaten to death, 2 news channels torched
Dhaka, 19 December. Violence has once again erupted in many cities of the country after the death of Sharif Usman Hadi, a key leader of the rebellion against ousted Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. In this sequence, the protesters set fire to the house of former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chaudhary. At the same time, in Bhaluka near Dhaka, a Hindu youth was beaten to death on the charges of insulting religion.
According to BBC Bangla report, the young man’s body was stripped naked, hanged from a tree and set on fire. The deceased has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das. Police said that this incident happened in Bhaluka on Thursday night. Its video is going viral on social media, in which people are seen raising slogans of ‘Allah-Hu-Akbar’.
Journalist Imdadul Haq Milan shot dead in Khulna
In Khulna, journalist Imdadul Haq Milan was shot dead. Police said that another person has been injured in this incident and has been admitted to the hospital. Milon Shalua was the President of the Press Club. At the time of the attack, Milon was sitting and drinking tea at a tea stall in Shalua market. At that very moment, four people riding on two motorcycles suddenly came, opened fire at them and ran away.
Former President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence also vandalized
Earlier, late on Thursday night, protesters forcibly entered the offices of the country’s largest newspapers, Daily Star and Prothom Alo, and vandalized and set fire to them. Apart from this, the residence of former President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has also been vandalized and the office of Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has also been burnt.

Usman Hadi injured in firing dies in Singapore
Usman Hadi was one of the key leaders of the July 2024 student movement against Sheikh Hasina. He was shot in the head during the election campaign on December 12. After this he was taken to Singapore for better treatment. He died six days later.
Singapore government did not allow Namaz-e-Janaza
According to the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore, Hadi’s first Namaz-e-Janaza was to be held in Singapore, but the government there did not give permission for the Namaz. After this, Hadi’s supporters in Bangladesh became more enraged.
There is no place for violence in the new Bangladesh
Meanwhile, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus strongly condemned the lynching of the Hindu man, saying there was no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh. The government promised that those responsible for this heinous crime will not be spared.
Yunus assured immediate action on Hadi’s murder
Yunus, while addressing the nation late Thursday night, said, ‘Today I have brought before you very sad news. Sharif Usman Hadi, the fearless frontline warrior of the July Uprising and spokesperson of Inquilab Manch, is no more with us. Yunus assured to bring those involved in this brutal murder to justice as soon as possible and said that no leniency will be shown towards the killers.
Yunus’ press secretary Shafiqul Alam, in a post in Bengali on Facebook, strongly and unequivocally condemned the violence, intimidation, arson and destruction of life and property. Also, calling the youth leader Hadi a martyr, the government urged the people to abandon violence, incitement and hatred. “In these difficult times, we appeal to every citizen to honor the martyr Hadi by rejecting and opposing violence, incitement and hatred,” the government said in a statement.
