Bangladeshi cricketers boycott BPL, BCB issues notice to director Nazmul Islam
Dhaka, 15 January. Bangladesh cricketers on Thursday boycotted the match of their domestic T20 league i.e. Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and demanded the resignation of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director M. Nazmul Islam. Amidst the ongoing dispute with India, the resentment of Bangladeshi cricketers increased so much that BCB had to issue a show cause notice to Nazmul due to his objectionable comments.
Teams did not reach for Noakhali Express vs Chittagong Royals match
Actually, the toss in the BPL match between Noakhali Express and Chittagong Royals here was delayed as neither of the two teams reached the venue. To Mustafizur Tension continues between India and Bangladesh after removal from IPL
It is noteworthy that recently, amidst the tension arising out of the exclusion of Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL) Kolkata franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Bangladesh refused to come to India citing security reasons to participate in the T20 World Cup proposed to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka next month and requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift its matches to Sri Lanka.
Does not want to send his team to India for T20 World Cup bcb
However, ICC has rejected his request and said that Bangladesh will have to play its matches in India only. At the same time, BCB is still continuing talks with ICC on this matter, so that a solution can be found.
Nazmul’s controversial statement caused anger among cricketers
But Nazmul dismissed concerns over players’ remuneration if the country withdrew, reiterating Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India for the T20 World Cup. He said that the players will not be compensated as they have not justified the support they have received so far and have not been able to win a single ICC competition. The players got angry with this statement and started creating ruckus. In this sequence, CWAB demanded his immediate removal.
BCB again expressed regret over Nazmul’s objectionable comments
Meanwhile, BCB said that it is with the players and has issued a show cause notice to Nazmul. BCB said in a press release, ‘The Board reiterates its regret over the recent objectionable comments made by a member. BCB acknowledges the concern raised by these comments and reiterates its commitment to professionalism, respect for cricketers and the values that underpin the game of cricket.’
According to the release, ‘The Board has already initiated formal disciplinary action against the concerned Board Member. A show cause notice has been issued and the person concerned has been directed to give a written reply within 48 hours.
Bangladesh are refusing to go to India and citing security concerns as fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out of the IPL on the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). ‘Surrounding events’ were cited for Mustafizur’s ouster.
Players urged not to boycott BPL
The BCB said it would deal with Nazmul, but urged players not to boycott the BPL. BCB said, ‘This matter will be dealt with due process and appropriate action will be taken. BCB firmly believes that the players are the main stakeholders and the lifeblood of BPL and all cricket activities under the Board.
According to the statement, ‘The Board has full hope that the cricketers will continue to show their professionalism and commitment by cooperating in the successful completion of the tournament and ensuring the continuity of BPL 2026.’
Nazmul to former captain Tamim Iqbal Have also been called ‘agent of India’
Nazmul had earlier described former captain Tamim Iqbal as an ‘agent of India’ when he called for handling the standoff with India with patience and warned that the impact of decisions taken today would be visible for 10 years. CWAB had then also said that Nazmul’s statement was ‘completely condemnable’. At the same time, Bangladesh’s Test captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto has also appealed to adopt a ‘practical’ attitude and also said that due to the current situation, the players are under a lot of stress.
