Bank Holiday: Banks will not open in these states today, April 15, check the list before leaving for work.

Today i.e. 15th April 2026, there is a bank holiday in many states of the country. Banks were closed across the country yesterday on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, after which holidays are continuing in many major cities for the second consecutive day. However, it is important to note that these holidays are not determined across the country but on the basis of regional festivals and special days. Why are banks closed today? According to the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), cultural and New Year festivals are being celebrated in different parts of the country on April 15. These mainly include Bengali New Year (Poila Baisakh), Bohag Bihu of Assam, Vishu of Kerala and Himachal Day. Due to these festivals, there will be no work in both government and private banks in the respective states. There will be a holiday in these cities. The list of major cities where branches of other banks including SBI, PNB, HDFC and ICICI will remain closed today is as follows: East and North-East: Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala, Itanagar, Gangtok, Imphal, Bhubaneswar, Patna and Ranchi. North India: Shimla, Lucknow, Dehradun and Srinagar. South India: Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad and Vijayawada. West India: Mumbai, Nagpur, Belapur and Panaji. Business will be normal here. In the states which are not affected by these regional festivals, banks will work as normal. Banks are open in cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Bhopal. If you need any service which can be completed only by physically visiting the bank, you can contact its branch in these cities. Customers can take advantage of digital services and there is no need to worry even though the bank branches are closed. Most of the banking related services are available through digital medium: Net banking and mobile apps: For fund transfer and bill payments. UPI: For instant payments and transactions. ATM: For cash withdrawal and balance checking. Online transfer: IMPS, NEFT and RTGS services will function smoothly. Upcoming holidays of April 2026 There will be holidays in some states in the remaining days of the month as well: 16 April: Bohag Bihu (second day of Assam Holiday). 20 April: Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya (mainly in Karnataka). 21 April: Garia Puja (in Tripura). Apart from this, banks will also remain closed on the fourth Saturday and Sunday.
