Bank Holiday- Heading for a bank? Banks will remain closed today March 19, know why
Bank Holidays: Heading for a bank? Wait, there is a big news for you. Some states in the country will see banks closed today, March 19, 2026. Many banks will not operate on Thursday due to the celebration of Navratri’s first day, Gadi Padwa, Ugadi, and the Telugu New Year. Throughout March, banks will observe closures on various days in different regions due to a range of festivals. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar indicates that bank holidays vary across the nation. This means that while some states will have closed banks, others will continue their regular operations.
On this date, Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Srinagar, and Vijayawada will not have bank services. Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Telugu New Year, and the first day of Navaratri are celebrated in various regions of India, marking the New Year and fresh starts. In Maharashtra, it is known as Gudi Padwa, while in South India, it is referred to as Ugadi and the Telugu New Year, and in North India, Navratri commences on this day. On this occasion, people clean and decorate their homes and embark on new ventures.
These festivals carry deep religious and cultural importance. Families visit temples, don new attire, and prepare traditional meals together. It is believed that any endeavors started on this day are blessed with good fortune and success.
Although bank branches will be closed, customers can still access digital services such as net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs. However, transactions at the counter, including check clearing, cash deposits, and withdrawals, will not be available on that day.
