Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the complete list of bank holidays for January 2026. According to RBI, banks will remain closed for a total of 16 days in January 2026.
These holidays will be due to festivals, national holidays and weekly offs of different states. In such a situation, before going to the bank, definitely check the list of holidays, otherwise both your time and effort may go waste. According to the RBI list, banks will remain closed on 4 Sundays and 2 Saturdays (second and fourth Saturday) in the month. The good thing is that even these days you can use digital banking. Facilities like UPI, PhonePe, Google Pay and ATM will continue to operate fully. If you have to make any payment or transfer, do it without any worries.
January 1: Holiday on New Year and singing festival
Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata and Shillong on January 1 due to New Year and Gaan-Nagai festival.
January 2: New Year celebrations continue
Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of New Year on January 2.
3 January: Hazrat Ali Birthday
Banks will remain closed in Lucknow on January 3, the birthday of Hazrat Ali.
12 January: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti
Banks will remain closed in Kolkata on January 12 on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.
14 January: Festival of Makar Sankranti
Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Itanagar on January 14 due to Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu. There will be holiday at some places in Delhi also.
15 January: Uttarayan, Pongal and Sankranti
Banks will remain closed in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad and Vijayawada on January 15 due to Uttarayan Punyakal, Pongal and Makar Sankranti.
16th and 17th January: Two consecutive days off in Chennai
Banks in Chennai will remain closed for two days due to Thiruvalluvar Day on January 16 and Uzhavar Thirunal on January 17.
23 January: Netaji Jayanti and Basant Panchami
Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata on January 23 due to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, Saraswati Puja, Veer Surendra Sai Jayanti and Basant Panchami.
26 January: Holiday across the country on Republic Day
Banks will remain closed across India on 26 January on the occasion of Republic Day.
