Bans Open Meat Sale, no more meat sale in the open

While announcing in the Legislative Council, Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha said that now there will be a complete ban on open sale of meat in the entire state.

The government claims that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the health, hygiene and public sentiments of the people. Strict instructions have been given to the municipal bodies that strict action should be taken against those who violate the rules.

What did Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha say?

During the budget session of the Legislative Council, the Deputy CM bluntly said that ‘open sale of meat will no longer be allowed.’ Only licensed sellers will be able to sell meat. Everyone will have to follow the rules, otherwise strict action will be taken.”

He also said in the House that selling meat in the open has adverse effects on health and affects the hygiene system. It will also be ensured that no one’s sentiments are hurt, hence meat will be sold only in shops licensed under the rules.

In which areas will this order be applicable?

The government has clarified that this system will be applicable in all urban areas and municipal bodies of the state. Under Section 345, it will be mandatory to obtain a valid license to run a meat shop. Strict action will be taken against those running shops without permission. The Deputy CM has instructed the administrative officials to investigate the meat and fish shops running in the cities. Those having valid licenses will be shifted as per the prescribed standards, while illegal shops will be closed.

Was the demand raised from Darbhanga?

Vijay Sinha said that during the public dialogue program in Darbhanga, people from different sections had demanded a ban on the sale of meat in the open. After this, strict instructions were issued to the district administration and municipal bodies. The government says that this step has been taken to maintain health safety, cleanliness and social harmony.

Why was the procession fee abolished from hearse vehicles?

Deputy CM made another important announcement in the House. He said that now no kind of procession fee will be charged from the dead bodies. Along with this, he also expressed concern about the land dispute and said that every year thousands of people lose their lives in land related disputes. The government is developing such a system in which there will be no room for middlemen and land mafia and permanent resolution of disputes can be achieved.

Will the structure of meat trade change in Bihar?

After this decision, meat trade in Bihar will come completely under license based and regulation. The government’s signal is clear – there will be no compromise on health, cleanliness and law. Now it has to be seen how strictly the administration is able to implement this order on the ground and how effectively it stops illegal business.
