Barcelona registered their sixth consecutive win in the Spanish League

Barcelona continued its impressive performance in the Spanish Football League, registering its sixth consecutive win by defeating Villarreal 5-1 here on Sunday.

However, Barcelona suffered a setback during the match when its captain and goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury and had to leave the field on a stretcher.


According to local media reports, Ter Stegen went from the stadium to hospital in an ambulance and returned from hospital in a wheelchair.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said, “We are saddened by this injury. I think the injury will be very big but we have to wait for more information. We have to accept it. It is not easy. It was an accident. It is very difficult.”

In the current season, Barcelona has scored 22 goals in six matches so far while only five goals have been scored against it.

The team has taken a four-point lead at the top of the table over Real Madrid, who beat Espanyol 4-1 on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano while Getafe and Leganes also tied 1-1.

Athletic Bilbao beat Celta Vigo 3-1.
