New Delhi: Former US President Barrack Obama has shared his list of favourite movies of 2024 and guess what? Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light has topped his recommendations. Every year, Obama shares his favourite movies, books, and songs of the year, which creates much hype among fans.

For the unversed, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival this year. It became the talk of the town as it was the first Indian film to win the coveted accolade since 1994. It was named Best International Film by New York Film Critics Circle.

The first movie in the list is Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, followed by Conclave, The Piano Lesson, The Promised Land, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Dune: Part Two, Anora, Didi, Sugarcane, and A Complete Unknown.

We all know that Barrack Obama’s favourite singer is Kendrick Lamar. This year too, his list include a Kendrick Lamar’s song ‘Squabble Up’ that tops his list of favourite songs. Other songs in his list include ‘Lunch’, ‘Yayo’, ‘Active’, Beyonce’s ‘Texas Hold’Em’, Ldeon Bridges’ ‘Peaceful Place’, and ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’.

After creating history with its Grand Prix, the film, All We Imagine As Lighthas been nominated for two Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards 2025. The director of the film, Payal Kapadia, also received the Spirit of Cinema award at the Kerala Film Festival (IFFK). The film narrates the story of a troubled nurse, Prabhas, who receives an unexpected gift from her ex-husband while her roommate is seeking intimacy from her boyfriend. The film shows how two women confront their desires and emotions.

The film features Divya Prabhas, Kani Kusrati, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles. It is an Indo-French production by Chalk & Cheese, Another Birth, and Petit Chaos.
