New Delhi: In order to conclude 2024 on a high note at the Box Office, Barroz 3D – starring Mohanlal in the titular role – was released in theaters on Wednesday (December 25, 2024), coinciding with the Christmas festivities. The Malayalam-language fantasy film also marks the directorial debut of the 64-year-old actor.
The storyline of the much-talked-about movie revolves around a treasure guardian, named Barroz, who has been protecting da Gama’s hidden treasure for 400 years. The plot intensifies as he awaits the arrival of a true descendant worthy of claiming it.

Barroz also features Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Nerea Camacho and Tuhin Menon in pivotal roles. It has been produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas.
According to early social media reviews, Barroz is receiving mixed responses from cinema lovers. “Barroz 3D falls short of expectations despite its immersive 3D visuals and Mohanlal’s stellar performance. The music direction is a letdown, with a jarring background score. The second half meanders, making it sluggish,” posted an X (formerly known as Twitter) user. Another wrote, “So far so good. Never-before experience in Mollywood.”
Akki launches Barroz's Hindi trailer
Barroz is considered to be a children’s fantasy film based on the novel Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure by Jijo Punnoose. It explores themes of friendship and loyalty, which are powerful enough to break ancient curses.
Its Hindi trailer was launched earlier in December 2024 by Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar. Akki lauded the fact that the film was entirely shot in 3D. He further said that the movie would bring happiness to many children. Barroz 3D is yet to be rated on IMDb.
