Baruipur rape-murder case: Main accused killed in police encounter, politics intensifies over encounter; Mahua Moitra raised questions

Kolkata. In the sensational case of rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, West Bengal, the police took major action and killed Prabhash Mandal, one of the main accused, in an encounter. Police claim that the accused was trying to escape from custody and attack the police team during evidence recovery, after which he was injured in self-defense. When taken to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.

Encounter happened while collecting evidence-
According to police officials, the investigation team had taken the accused to a deserted area of ​​Baruipur to recover evidence related to the incident. During this time he attacked the policemen and tried to escape. He was seriously injured in police retaliatory firing and later died.

Mahua Moitra raised questions on the encounter-
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has raised questions over the death of the accused in an encounter. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that the accused of Baruipur rape-murder was killed in a police encounter. He questioned the action of West Bengal Police and commented on law and order, calling it “Uttar Pradesh 2.0”.

Chief Minister assured justice to the victim’s family-
Amid growing public anger, the Chief Minister reached Baruipur and met the victim’s family and assured speedy and fair justice. He held a review meeting with senior police officers and directed to take strict action against the culprits. Earlier, the Chief Minister had also talked to the victim’s family on phone.

Three accused arrested so far-
The police took immediate action in this case and arrested three accused including Anand Sardar, Prabhash Mandal and Diwakar Sardar. Of these, Prabhash Mandal has died in the encounter, while the interrogation of other accused is going on.

Violence broke out after the dead body was found-
The body of the girl who went missing on Saturday was recovered from a pond located near the railway line on Sunday morning. Angry people protested after the incident. Meanwhile, a young man was beaten to death by the angry mob, which further increased the tension in the area.

Along with meeting the victim’s family, the Chief Minister also met the family members of the youth killed in mob lynching and consoled them.

The role of police is also under investigation-
After the incident, local people alleged that despite receiving information about the missing girl, the police did not take timely action. Taking these allegations seriously, senior officers of the state police inspected the incident site and made it clear that an impartial inquiry would be conducted into the functioning of the police.

At present the investigation of the case is going on and the police is investigating all aspects.
