Basit Ali Lauds Kamran Ghulam, Trolls Michael Vaughan

Simple Ali Lauds Kamran Ghulam: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali showered praise on Kamran Ghulam who bolstered a brilliant ton on his debut in the second Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. With the help of Kamran’s 118 runs from 222 deliveries, Pakistan reached the score of 358 runs by losing 8 wickets on the second day at lunch.

Background

Pakistan had their 6th consecutive Test defeat when they met an innings defeat to England in the first Test of the series. Babar Azam’s scores were poor in the match: 30 and 5 in the first and second innings, respectively. This made the management bench Babar in the second Test and gave a chance for uncapped Kamran Ghulam. But this brought in a lot of public outrage. One of the main critics of this decision was Michael Vaughan, who called it ‘a stupid decision’ as the former England cricketer believed Babar deserved more opportunities.

But Kamran Ghulam shocked everyone by pulling out a masterclass century when Pakistan were in a vulnerable situation, having lost 2 wickets while adding just 19 runs.

Basit Ali lauded the player for his incredible knock and also taunted back at Vaughan for the latter’s comments.

“The best thing about the knock was that he (Ghulam) came out to bat when the score was 19/2. They were saying before the match that it was wrong to rest Babar, sponsors won’t come. Show Ghulam’s picture to Michael Vaughan and tell him he is there.”

“PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi will be very happy today. He had given a statement that ‘there is no replacement at the moment’. But (selectors) Aaqib Javed & co introduced a new kid and he made a century on debut. The bold decision taken by the selectors can lead to betterment (of Pakistan cricket). Like Rohit Sharma had said there (in India), give domestic cricket it’s due,” he added (4:00).
