According to the information, as part of major efforts to strengthen Australia-India relations through cricket, the governments of both the countries have supported it. This historic match, which will be the first BBL match outside Australia, will start at 2:40 PM IST. The match will begin after the fourth day’s play of the first Test match being played between Australia and New Zealand in Perth.

Alastair Dobson, general manager of the Big Bash League at Cricket Australia, said that taking the tournament to India reflects the growing international popularity of the league. “There is a very deep and real connection to our sport in India,” Dobson said.

He further said, “This match is part of a much bigger initiative by both our governments and shows that cricket works to connect our two countries. And both the governments of Australia and India understand this and want to be a part of it.”

Cricket Australia officials believe that hosting even one BBL match in India would significantly increase fan engagement, viewership and awareness of the tournament and its teams in the world’s largest cricket market.

Interestingly, this step is being taken at a time when the league is considering the possibility of private investment in BBL clubs. If CA, the six states and the players’ union (Australian Cricketers’ Association) agree on an investment model, the Renegades and Scorchers could be among the first franchises to try this market.
