BCB cancels today’s match in BBL, Check out the reason behind this

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had cancelled a match on Tuesday which was originally scheduled for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 season due to the unfortunate passing of Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The match involving the Sylhet Titans against Chattogram Royals was supposed to take place on Tuesday, December 30, and after that, the other match was going to be played between Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders. But now, these two matches are off and BCB will be announcing the new date soon.

Former Bangladesh PM’s death prompts BCB to postpone BPL 2025-26 matches

As per the report from ESPNCricinfo, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia died in the early hours of Tuesday, causing a great shock to the whole country. Zia was elected the Prime Minister of Bangladesh twice, first from 1991 to 1996 and later from 2001 to 2006.

The cricketing scenario in BPL got changed with the sad news and BCB while announcing it referred to the immediate cancellation of the Tuesday matches. Khaleda Zia was pronounced dead at 6.00 AM, after which BCB gave out a notification regarding the re-scheduling of the match-ups between Sylhet-Chattogram and Rangpur-Dhaka.

In a formal message issued, BCB expressed its sorrow at the passing of Khaleda Zia and acknowledged her as a great leader and credited her with the nation’s progress and stability as an effective administrator. The cricket board extended its heartfelt thanks to the deceased ex-PM for her continual backing of the cricket development in the country.

“The BCB has expressed its gratitude when recalling Zia’s [Zia’s] constant blessings and good wishes for the development of cricket in this country. The Prime Minister’s support for cricket in Bangladesh was extraordinary during her time and was through her that a lot of cricket infrastructure improvement and the sport’s growth across the country was done. Today, many of the advancements that the game has are because of her vision and encouragement,” stated the BCB.

“To show respect for the national mourning and to acknowledge the legacy of Begum Khaleda Zia, the BCB announces that today’s scheduled matches of the Bangladesh Premier League will be cancelled and this will be followed by re-scheduling. The details regarding the revised fixtures will be shared later,” added the board.

How are these four teams doing in BPL till now?

Looking at the mentioned teams, the Rangpur Royals are now in the second position of the points table, while Chattogram, Dhaka, and Sylhet are occupying third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively. Rajshahi Warriors are leading the table with two victories out of three, while Noakhali Express is at the bottom, unable to win a single match so far in the tournament.
