Chennai. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Last time’s runners-up Punjab Kings registered their second consecutive win by defeating five-time champions Chennai Super Kings by five wickets here on Friday. As his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 7 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
According to an IPL statement, “This was Punjab Kings’ second offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate, hence Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh.” It added, “Players included in the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever is less.”
It was his team’s second offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct – which deals with minimum over-rate offenses – so Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh. The remaining members of the playing XI, including the impact players, will be fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees; Whichever is less among these two will be applicable.
