BCCI announced Team India’s tour of Sri Lanka, 2 test matches will be held in Galle and Colombo.

New Delhi: Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday announced the schedule of the two-Test series against India to be held in August. Both the matches will be played in Galle and Colombo.

What is the full schedule?

The first Test will be held at the Galle International Stadium from 15 to 19 August. The second Test will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from 23 to 27 August.

Important series for India in WTC cycle

This series is very important for Team India in the World Test Championship cycle. Sri Lanka has always been a difficult place for foreign teams. However, India’s performance in the last two tours was excellent. In 2017, India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0, while in 2015 it won the three-Test series 2-1.

Spin challenge in front of young team

This tour will not be easy for the young Indian team captained by Shubman Gill. Indian batsmen face problems against good spin and spinners get help in Sri Lanka. Under the captaincy of Gill, India started the current WTC cycle with a 2-2 draw in England.

After this West Indies were defeated 2-0. But last year, a 2-0 defeat at home to South Africa made the path to the final difficult. In June, India played a Test against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, but it was not part of the WTC.

Where is Team India in the points table?

India is currently at fifth position in the WTC standings with four wins and four losses. After the Sri Lanka tour, the team will face two more big challenges. New Zealand will come to India for two Tests in November. After this, there will be a five-Test Border-Gavaskar series against Australia at home early next year.

Some players are already in Sri Lanka

Some of India’s Test players like Sai Sudarshan and Dhruv Jurel are already in Sri Lanka. He is playing unofficial test for India A. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s senior team lost by an innings in the first Test against West Indies in Antigua. The second Test will start from July 3 and Sri Lanka will try to make a comeback.
