BCCI announces 16-member Indian team for England ODI series
BCCI has announced the 16-member Indian team for the ODI series against England on Saturday. This team has the same 15 players from the Champions Trophy and ODI series, while fast bowler Harshit Rana has been added in place of Jasprit Bumrah, who will not be available in the first two matches. 23-year-old Rana has been included in the ODI team for the first time, having made his international debut on the Australia tour.
Bumrah's injury may take time for his comeback as he did not bowl in the second innings of the fifth Test against Australia due to back spasms. His availability in the Champions Trophy will depend on fitness. The England team has to play five T20 and three ODI matches on the India tour, in which the T20 series will start from January 22 and the ODI series will start from February 6.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who was present with Indian captain Rohit Sharma at the press conference, said, “Bumrah has been asked to rest for five weeks, and he will not be available for the first two ODIs against England. We will know about his fitness status in early February.” The final team for the Champions Trophy will have to be submitted to the ICC by 11 February.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been included in this team for the first time, while experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have also made a comeback. Young batsman Shubhman Gill has been appointed the vice-captain of the team.
