IPL 2026: Cricket moving towards professionalism with new rules

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made important rule amendments to make the upcoming season of IPL more organized and professional. According to the new instructions, no team will be allowed to practice on the match day. BCCI believes that this decision will improve the quality of the pitch and outfield and will also reduce additional physical pressure on the players. Special arrangements have been made for practice at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where separate practice wickets will be provided to both the teams. No team will be able to use the wicket of the opposing team.

Change in practice rules

Under the new rules, teams will be provided with limited nets and range hitting will be allowed only on one side of the wicket. Use of open nets will be completely prohibited. If a team ends its practice prematurely, the other team will not be able to use that wicket. This change will bring a new twist in the way teams practice.

It is mandatory to carry accreditation card

Strict rules have been imposed on the activities of players and support staff on match day. Only authorized staff will be allowed entry into the dressing room and field. It will be mandatory for all support staff to keep the accreditation card with them. Additionally, players will have to reach the stadium during practice by the team bus, while their families and friends will travel separately. Fitness test on the day of the match has also been banned, which will bring stability in the preparation of the players.

No permission to sit near LED board

Players will not be allowed to sit near the LED board during the match and will have to follow all the rules related to the sponsor. Along with this, it has been made mandatory to wear orange and purple caps, so that the performance can be clearly shown during the telecast. This initiative will make the match even more exciting for the spectators.

Dress code implemented in presentation ceremony

It will be necessary to follow the dress code even in the presentation ceremony after the match. Fines can be imposed for violating the rules. Only a limited number of support staff will be allowed on the field on the match day, which will also include the team doctor. It is clear from these new rules that BCCI is trying to organize the IPL in a more disciplined and professional manner this time. Decisions like banning practice, especially on match day, can bring major changes in the strategy of teams and the way players prepare.
