BCCI Naman Award 2026: Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana honored with Best International Cricketer Award

New Delhi, March 15. Indian Test team captain Shubhman Gill and Smriti Mandhana were honored with the Best International Cricketer (men’s and women’s category respectively) awards at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Naman Awards 2026 ceremony held here on Sunday for their outstanding performances in 2024-2025.

Mandhana declared best international cricketer for the fifth time

Gill won the prestigious ‘Polly Umrigar Award’. This is his second ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award, before which he had won this award in 2023. Mandhana received this award for the fifth time.

Lifetime Achievement Award to Binny, Dravid and Mithali Raj

Former veteran cricketers Roger Binny, Rahul Dravid and Mithali Raj were honored with BCCI’s highest honor ‘Colonel CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement’ Award. This honor was given in view of his excellent contribution to Indian cricket.

The year 2025 was a great year for Gill

If we look at it, the year 2025 was very good for Gill and he established himself as one of the most reliable batsman of the team in the longer formats of cricket. On the England tour, captain Gill led the team in the five-Test series and scored a total of 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40, making him the highest run-scorer in the series. This also included four centuries and his highest score of 269 runs.

Gill also played an important role in India’s ‘Champions Trophy’ victory last year. He entered this tournament as the world number one ODI batsman. He scored an unbeaten 101 in India’s first match against Bangladesh and finished his campaign with a total of 188 runs in the entire tournament.

Mandhana finished 2025 with a total of 1,703 international runs

Mandhana ended 2025 with a total of 1,703 international runs. This includes 1,362 runs in ODIs, the most by any female cricketer in a calendar year. By doing so, Mandhana became the first batsman in the history of women’s ODI cricket to score 1,000 runs in a single calendar year.

Mandhana also contributed significantly in helping India win its first Women’s World Cup title. She scored a total of 434 runs in nine matches and was the highest run-scorer for India in the tournament. She stood second in the list of batsmen scoring the most runs in the entire tournament.

Before the World Cup, left-handed batsman Mandhana scored the fastest ODI century by any Indian batsman by scoring a century in 50 balls against Australia in New Delhi, thus surpassing Virat Kohli’s record of 52 balls.

These cricketers were also honored

Shafali Verma was awarded the Best Women Senior ODI Cricketer, Ira Jadhav was awarded the Best Women Cricketer (Domestic), Harsh Dubey was awarded the Best Allrounder in Ranji Trophy and Ayush Mhatre was awarded the Best Allrounder in Domestic Limited Overs competitions for her stellar performance in the 2024–25 domestic season.
