BCCI took action against Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder, got this punishment for using phone in the dugout

BCCI ‘Not Satisfied’ With Rajasthan Royals Manager: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devjit Saikia on Friday (April 7) confirmed that the board and its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) are not satisfied with the explanation given by Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder on the use of mobile phones in the dugout during the IPL 2026 match.

Under BCCI’s Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) rules, the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices in sensitive areas such as the field and dugouts is restricted to authorized persons only. Although team managers are allowed to have phones, their use is generally restricted to the dressing room.

Romi Bhinder was using phone during Bengaluru match

The matter came to light when Romi Bhinder was seen using his phone in the dugout during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. At that time, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was sitting near him and he was looking at the phone screen, which created a controversy.

After this incident, an investigation was conducted by BCCI. According to reports, Rajasthan Royals officials unofficially claimed that Bhinder was aware of the rules, but he had taken his phone with him to the dugout for medical reasons. It was reported that he had some health problems, due to which he found it difficult to walk for long periods of time.

BCCI was not satisfied with the answer

However, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia clarified that after investigation and clarification, the Board and ACSU are not satisfied with this reply. He said this was a violation of protocol and a notice had already been issued to Bhinder, to which he was given 48 hours to respond.

Fine imposed on Romi Bhinder

Saikia further informed that this was her first violation, hence as per the rules, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on Romi Bhinder and she has been warned to be more cautious in future. He also said that this case should be seen as a warning to all concerned stakeholders, so that in future no one violates the rules and the dignity of the game is maintained.

What did BCCI say about Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

At the same time, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has not been given any punishment in this case. BCCI has clarified that no fault has been found in this. The board believes that Suryavanshi only needs to be better informed about the rules, for which instructions are expected to be given to the Rajasthan Royals management.
