Before IPL 2026, BCCI issued new rules regarding practice sessions.

Delhi: The countdown for the 19th season of IPL has started. The tournament will start after 16 days. RCB will face SRH in the first match of IPL 2026 on March 28. Before the start of the mega event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has issued new rules regarding practice sessions. According to the new rule of BCCI, now no team will practice on the pitch on which another team has practiced.

New nets will be available for practice sessions

According to the new rules, now every team will have practice sessions at its scheduled time. During this period, every team will get a new net. If there are simultaneous practice sessions or when one team takes the field for practice after the other, the first team will not be allowed to use the opposing team’s net (even for throw downs). If one team ends its practice session before the scheduled time, the other team will not be allowed to use their range-hitting wicket.

This rule was made regarding practice match

A new rule has been made regarding practice matches played under lights. No team can play a practice match for more than three and a half hours. If he has to play the match for more time than this, then BCCI will have to inform him about it. In this match, play will be allowed only on the wicket of one side of the main square. Teams will not even be allowed to practice on the main square.

At the same time, at the beginning of the season, it is strictly prohibited to play practice sessions and practice matches on the main square four days before the first match of the home team. However, if the home team requests, the State Association can arrange for another ground for the team to practice at its own expense. Before the opening match of the season, all 10 teams will get two nets in the practice area and one net in the main square for range hitting from March 16.

Home team will be able to practice first

In its rules, BCCI has asked the home team to choose its slot in the practice session as per their choice. However, the request of the host team will be considered if it has played a match a day before. The travel arrangements of the host team will be taken into consideration by the board.

What will happen if teams fight over practice sessions?

If there is any conflict between the teams regarding the practice session, then BCCI will resolve the matter. If both the teams want to practice at the same time, then the board will ask the team manager to find a solution for double booking. In such a situation, the manager, after talking to the teams, will ask one of the two teams to choose another session.

If the matter is not resolved even after talks, then BCCI will decide the time for practice on the request of both the teams. This will create 2 slots for the practice session. Under this, every team will get two hours to practice on the field. Both the teams will get similar conditions in the practice session.
