BCCI to ask favour from ICC due to…
It is reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to seek an extension of time from the ICC on India’s provisional announcement of the squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
As per a report on Cricbuzz, the selection committee under Ajit Agarkar may postpone announcing the names for the upcoming ODI series against England. It is also pointed that the BCCI might use their recent commitments for touring Australia as a legitimate cause to extend the deadline. The provisional squad may comprise players who would participate in the impending 50-over games with England, and India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad might get announced between January 18-19.
As for T20I, it is expected that the announcement could be made in the next few days, Tharuni being the only one expected to feature again for those who participated in the Bangladesh series. Arshdeep Singh will probably lead the bowling attack and is expected to feature in the 50-over series as well.
Shami, on the other hand, is likely to receive the clearance from NCA Sports Science wing after he features in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Bengal. Continuous due to attend international cricket, it is expected to end for him with involvement featured in both the ODI Squad and probably the Champions Trophy squad.
Yashasvi Jaiswal on the other hand is tipped to get a call-up to the ODI setup and is on tracks for being a regular for the national team across the three formats. The young southpaw has marked his entry into Test cricket and may score his debut in the 50-over format during the upcoming games in England. He can also be a potential candidate for opening the batting in India’s CT 2025 squad.
It is rather unlikely that Nitish Reddy, who had a fantastic run in Tests against Australia, would now play in the ODI matches. However, he is most likely to be there for the T20I games against the England team.
India’s home series against England will start with a five-match T20I series on January 22 and continue with a three-match ODI series on February 6.
