BCCI will start IPL 2027 early, planning will be done keeping in mind the scorching heat Gujarati

Mumbai, 18 June 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a big plan for the upcoming 20th season of the Indian Premier League 2027, according to which this mega tournament may start a little earlier than the usual time next year. BCCI is seriously thinking of organizing the next IPL 2027 between March 10 and May 15. According to the board, the main reason behind starting the tournament early is the extreme heat and weather conditions in the country. This change will provide great relief to the players from the scorching heat and scorching sun of the months of May and June. Along with this, the Cricket Board has also made it clear that they have no intention of increasing the number of matches in the next season.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Sekiya had said that intensive discussions are currently going on at the highest levels of the board regarding the early start of IPL 2027. Our maximum effort is to complete this prestigious tournament starting from 10th March to 15th May, so that the players from India and abroad can escape from the scorching heat of summer. He added that after May 15, the temperature rises very high in most of the states of India, due to which the health of the players and their performance on the field is adversely affected. It has become necessary to take this decision to maintain the safety of the players and the quality of the match.

Earlier, there were strong discussions and speculations going on in the cricket world that considering the popularity of IPL, there could be a big increase in the number of matches from the next season. However, Secretary Devjit Sekiya put an end to all these rumors and clarified that BCCI has no plans to increase the number of matches at present. In the next season also only 74 matches will be played as per the current format. Earlier there was talk that 94 matches could be played in Ramadwa instead of 74 in the next season, but considering the busy international schedule and the current situation, this change is not possible at all.

  • Started preparations for the next season

It is noteworthy that this year IPL 2026 started from 28th March and its final match was played on 31st May. During this two-month long tournament, BCCI and all the franchises had directly witnessed the severe effects of heat across the country, due to which the players were put in great trouble physically. Keeping this bitter administrative experience in mind, the Cricket Board has now woken up in time and is preparing the final roadmap to start the next 20th season from the second week of March.
