BCCI’s big announcement for Asian Games, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s name in discussion

New Delhi: The preparations of the Indian team for the cricket event in the Asian Games 2026 have gained momentum. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has sent the list of 30 probable players to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for this multi-sport event to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in September-October. After this list came out, the most discussion is about the selection of young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the exclusion of T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and Test-ODI captain Shubman Gill.

Vaibhav impressed the selectors

Just 15 years old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has impressed the selectors with his aggressive and explosive batting performance in IPL 2026. For this reason, for the first time he has got a place in the probable list of a big multi-nation event. At the same time, the names of experienced players Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill have not been included in the probable team this time, due to which many discussions have started in the cricket world.

Actually, the Asian Games and India’s tour of the West Indies are falling at almost the same time. India has to play three ODIs and five T20 matches against West Indies from September 27 to October 17, while the men’s cricket tournament of the Asian Games will be played from September 24 to October 3. Due to this conflict, the selectors have to work on the plans of two different T20 teams.

According to reports, in view of the possibility of Shubman Gill taking over the responsibility of ODI captaincy, he has not been given a place in this list. There have also been indications regarding Suryakumar Yadav that he is not being considered a part of the 2028 Olympics and future T20 plans.
