Be it President, PM or Governor, why doesn’t Mamata Banerjee take the political load?

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee is known for her strict administrative/political approach. He has held the post of Chief Minister of Bengal for three consecutive terms. By winning the upcoming assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee is preparing to become the Chief Minister of the state for the fourth time. In fact, she is counted among those women leaders of the country, who often remain in the headlines due to her stubbornness and stubborn attitude. However, it is this attitude and hard work that is behind Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s current position and what she has achieved in her political career.

Be it Mamata Banerjee’s leaving the party in 1997 due to internal factionalism and differences with Congress and then later establishing Trinamool Congress. While in the Parliament, as an MP and Union Minister, she never shied away from expressing her views even when she faced opposition from the opposition. This is the reason why his political fight was earlier with Congress and Left. Mamta is now fighting the same battle with BJP.

In fact, after seeing Mamata Banerjee’s political battle after 2014, it appears that her political enemy is not Congress but BJP. This has been proven time and again. CM Mamata has fought with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governors and even the President since 2014. In such a situation, let us know why Mamata Banerjee does not take the political load of all these, be it President, Prime Minister or Governor…

Enmity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee always attacks Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an aggressive, personal and symbolic manner. She often addresses the PM as a fascist and a liar in her rallies and speeches. She accuses the Modi government of misusing constitutional positions. He says that Modi government harasses TMC and the state government by using central agencies including CBI, ED, Election Commission.

Mamata works on a strategy to garner support for herself and opposition unity by accusing Modi of dictatorship and attack on democracy in West Bengal. Because BJP never came to power in Bengal. The saffron party has always been in the opposition in Bengal, but in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha and 2021 assembly elections, BJP has made a spectacular entry in Bengal, which has created problems for TMC.

BJP has not been able to strengthen its foothold in Bengal, due to which Mamata Banerjee fiercely targets PM Modi and BJP. On the other hand, PM Modi and BJP often attack Mamata Banerjee for coming to power in Bengal.

Mamata’s tussle with governors

Mamata Banerjee became the Chief Minister of Bengal for the first time in 2011. From then till now he has been continuously holding the post of Chief Minister. During this period, there were many such issues of the state and the center on which the Chief Minister versus the Governor. In such a situation, there was tension between Mamata and the governors. During Mamata’s tenure, there have been mainly public and sharp confrontations with two governors. Relations with other governors (such as Keshari Nath Tripathi or those with additional charge) remained relatively calm or less contentious.

Mamata Banerjee had the biggest and most intense conflict with Jagdeep Dhankhar (Governor 2019-2022). There were public debates between the two regarding about 14 major disputes. After this, CV Anand Bose (2022-2026) was the Governor of Bengal. CM Mamata was also unhappy with Bose. Mamata had a long conflict with the Governor over the appointment of Vice-Chancellor of state government universities in Bengal. He accused the Governor of interfering in the appointment of VC. Apart from this, there was a dispute with the Governor regarding Panchayat election violence, State Foundation Day, district tour and statements on law and order.

Latest controversy with President Draupadi Murmu

President Draupadi Murmu reached West Bengal on March 7 to attend the 9th International Santhal Conference. As soon as she reached the program, she expressed her displeasure over the small venue. He also expressed grief over the fact that the Chief Minister or no minister of the state government was present to welcome the President as per the prescribed protocol. Murmu said that he personally has no objection to this but the protocol set for the President of the country should be followed.

During this, President Murmu called Mamata Banerjee his younger sister and wondered whether the West Bengal Chief Minister was ‘angry’ about something, because neither the Chief Minister nor any other minister was present to welcome him during his North Bengal tour.

After this statement of the President, Mamta said that Murmu is making statements before the assembly elections at the behest of BJP. CM Mamata said that BJP is misusing the President’s office to defame the state government. He directly said that it is not always possible to participate in such programs before elections. Also said that if the President comes once a year, I can welcome you, but if you come during elections, it will not be possible for me to attend your programs because I am working for the rights of the people.

On whom does Mamta fight?

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clashes with the Central Government, Prime Minister, Governor and President because she has a strong hold on her vote bank. With the help of this vote bank, she has remained relevant in politics for decades. TMC has its strongest hold in Bengal on the Muslim vote bank of 27 percent. This is the strongest and most reliable basis of love. Apart from this, Mamata Banerjee has a hold on the Matua community, which is the SC vote bank of TMC. According to an estimate, their population in the state is 17 percent, which impacts 30-45 seats in Bengal.

Apart from this, a big strength of Mamata Banerjee is the ST, OBC and poor people living in rural areas of West Bengal, who vote for Mamata’s party in the elections. Overall, TMC’s vote bank is Muslims, women, OBC and SC/ST.

Focus on state based issues

Mamata Banerjee always focuses on the issues of West Bengal. She knows very well that national and international issues have no special meaning in the politics of Bengal. That is why she talks about the poor of the state, Muslims, Bengali language, culture and Bengali identity. However, BJP always tries to bring her issues of Hindutva and nationalism to her pitch but she is successful in bringing the issues created by BJP in her favor.
