Bengal Assembly elections: 91.66 percent voting in the last phase amid sporadic violence
Kolkata, 29 April. 91.66 per cent of the 3.21 crore voters exercised their franchise amid sporadic violence in the second and final phase of assembly elections in West Bengal on Wednesday. In this phase, the political fate of 1,448 candidates including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is to be decided.

Amid unprecedented security arrangements on 142 seats in seven districts of South Bengal – Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Nadia and Purba Bardhaman, rain interfered in many areas during the voting. But there was no lack of enthusiasm among the voters and long queues of voters were seen at most of the polling stations since morning.
Total vote percentage in Bengal including both phases is record 92.47.%
According to the data received from the Election Commission at 7.45 pm, 91.31 percent voting was recorded. Earlier, 89.99 percent voting was recorded till 5 pm, 78.70 percent till 3 pm, 61.11 percent till 1 pm and 39.97 percent till 11 am.

It is noteworthy that the voting participation in the first phase in the state was 93.19%. The total voting percentage including both the phases was a record 92.47%. Earlier, the highest level of voting participation in West Bengal was 84.72% (2011 general elections).

Accused – ‘I have never seen such a condition of democracy before’
Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee said, ‘The harassment started last night. Many workers of our party have been arrested. I have never seen such a condition of democracy before. Trinamool is winning. Whatever they (opposition) tell the press and media is shown. But I am telling you, Trinamool is really winning. Regarding Trinamool’s victory, he said, ‘I have received reports which show that BJP is losing in West Bengal. We will form the government once again with two-thirds majority.

Saurabh Ganguly said – ‘what will be the result, This is for people to decide themselves‘
In this sequence, former captain of the Indian cricket team Saurabh Ganguly, along with his wife Donna Ganguly and elder brother Snehasish Ganguly, ‘Maharaj’ of Bengal reached Barisha Shashibhushan Jankalyan Vidyapeeth in Behala to cast his vote. After casting his vote, Ganguly said, ‘There has never been any election violence in this area. Today, there is no news of any major disturbance from Kolkata or districts. It should happen like this only. People are voting peacefully. However, what will be the result on May 4, it is up to the people to decide for themselves.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Aggarwal said, ‘The names of dead voters have been removed from the list and voters are happy with the SIR. Just as the elections have been peaceful, there should be no violence after the elections too. He said that the Election Commission and the Home Ministry have decided that even after the elections, many battalions and companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed here.
