Bengal CM warns strict action against those who tried to free jailed TMC leader Jahangir Khan

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that stringent action would be taken against individuals involved in the alleged attempt to storm Missing Police Station in South 24 Parganas district and secure the release of jailed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came a day after a large group of supporters gathered near the police station, demanding Khan’s release and triggering a law-and-order situation in the area. Police later intervened to disperse the crowd and restore normalcy.

CM says law will take its own course

Addressing the issue, Banerjee stated that those who attempted to take the law into their own hands would face appropriate legal action. She emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any effort to obstruct police functioning or interfere with the legal process.

The Chief Minister said that the administration was closely monitoring the developments and that law enforcement agencies had been instructed to proceed in accordance with the law.

Eight arrested in connection with incident

According to police officials, eight people have been arrested for allegedly attempting to storm the police station and secure Khan’s release from custody.

Investigators have alleged that the operation was planned in advance and have claimed that Khan’s wife played a key role in mobilising supporters who gathered outside the police facility. The arrested individuals are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

Protest erupted following Khan’s arrest

The unrest follows the arrest of Jahangir Khana prominent TMC leader from the Falta area, who was taken into custody earlier this month in connection with extortion and other criminal cases.

Police records indicate that multiple FIRs have been registered against Khan at Falta Police Station. He was arrested near the India-Nepal border and subsequently remanded to police custody by a court.

Large crowd gathered outside police station

Police said a large number of supporters assembled near Falta Police Station demanding Khan’s release. Reports indicated that roads in the area were blocked during the protest, causing disruption and prompting a security response.

Authorities later brought the situation under control and launched an investigation into the events surrounding the gathering and the alleged attempt to breach police security.

Investigation continues

Senior police officials said the investigation is continuing and that additional action may follow based on evidence collected during the probe.

The administration has maintained that any attempt to interfere with police procedures or judicial processes will be dealt with strictly under the law.
