Bengal Elections 2026: ‘Didi’s attitude became harsh, called Amit Shah ‘Shakuni’ and ‘Dushasan’; Political war broke out over the characters of Mahabharata
Kolkata. Before the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, political decorum seems to be on the wane. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made her most controversial attack so far on Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In an election public meeting, he compared the Home Minister to the Mahabharata characters ‘Shakuni’ and ‘Dushasan’, after which politics has heated up from Delhi to Bengal.
Mamta Banerjee’s attack-
Simile of Shakuni and Dushasan: Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP is hatching a conspiracy like Shakuni to disintegrate the social fabric of Bengal. He described the Home Minister as ‘Dushasan’ and accused the BJP of doing divisive politics.
Questions on security: The Chief Minister, surrounded by the issue of infiltration, hit back at the Center and mentioned the Pahalgam attack. He raised the question that when border security is in the hands of the Centre, then why is Bengal being blamed for its failures?
BJP’s counterattack-
BJP has expressed strong objection to Mamta’s statements. The top leadership of BJP said:
Frustration of defeat: According to BJP leaders, Mamata Banerjee, seeing her defeat certain, has now forgotten the dignity of language.
Vote bank politics: BJP reiterated that TMC’s politics is being run on the basis of illegal infiltrators, which the people of Bengal will uproot this time.
