Bengal Elections: Didi is going, BJP is coming. Amit Shah’s big claim – BJP will win 110 out of 152 seats in the first phase.
News India Live, Digital Desk: After the first phase of voting for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, the political temperature has reached its peak. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a press conference in Kolkata on Friday, announced the departure of Mamata Banerjee government. Shah claimed that the record voting in the first phase is a clear indication that the people of Bengal have approved the wave of ‘change’. Quoting BJP’s internal assessment, he said that out of 152 seats in the first phase, BJP has taken a strong step towards absolute majority by winning more than 110 seats. 92.59% voting: Victory over fear and a new record of democracy. Amit Shah congratulated the voters of Bengal for the record breaking voting (92.59%). He said, “For the first time in the history of Bengal, people have exercised their franchise without any fear. This is the biggest turnout since 1951.” Shah also praised the Election Commission and the central security forces for this and said that this is probably the first election in Bengal in which no one died due to violence. He termed it as ‘a journey from fear to trust’. Attacking the ‘nephew tax’ and corruption, Shah fiercely targeted the issue of corruption while cornering the Mamata government. He alleged that Trinamool Congress has institutionalized corruption in Bengal. Shah promised that ‘Bhaipo Tax’ and syndicate raj will be abolished as soon as the BJP government comes to power. He announced that corruption cases will be investigated by a retired judge of the Supreme Court and those who loot public money will be sent to jail. ‘Chief Minister will be from Bengal only’: Shah’s new promise. During the press conference, Amit Shah played a big gamble and said that if BJP comes to power, then the Chief Minister will be a son or daughter from the land of Bengal, who understands Bengali language and culture. Describing women’s safety as the first priority of his government, he said that the mothers and sisters of Bengal will be freed from the fear that they had to face during the TMC rule. Shah expressed confidence that voters will vote in favor of BJP with the same enthusiasm in the second phase also.
