The name ‘Torcal’ is inspired by Spain’s natural reserve
The company has been taking inspiration from natural heritage and special geographical places to name its vehicles. Continuing this tradition, the name is taken from a famous natural reserve named El Torcal de Antequera located in Andalusia, Spain. This place is recognized throughout the world for its unique limestone formations, huge rocks and ancient caves.
Along with this, the company has also shared an interesting linguistic connection behind this name. This name is related to the Latin word ‘Torquere’, which means ‘to twist’ or ‘to twist’. In the world of automobile, ‘Torque’ is derived from this word, which shows the instant speed and power of electric vehicles.
The secret of the design revealed from the teaser image, know what will be the features
Along with announcing the name, Bentley has also released the first official teaser image of this new electric car. Although only the rear profile of the vehicle is visible in the picture released, but looking at its sloping roofline it is clear that it will not be a traditional sedan or coupe, but a modern coupe-style luxury urban SUV. Slim LED taillights and diamond-cut finishing can be seen in it.
According to industry reports, Bentley Torcal is built on Volkswagen Group’s advanced Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. The same platform will also be used in the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. According to Bentley’s Design Director Robin Page, keeping in mind the convenience of the customers, this SUV will have an excellent driving range of about 300 to 350 miles (483 to 563 kilometers). The vehicle will be provided with 800V ultra-fast charging technology, which will give it the ability to travel up to 161 kilometers in just 7 minutes of charging.
Voices from the Ground / Official Statements
“For 107 years, Bentley has been the epitome of ultimate performance, unmatched comfort and superb British craftsmanship. Our new ‘Torcal’ is going to set a new benchmark in every sense of the word. It could prove to be the finest and most thoughtfully designed car in our history.”
— -Stephan Walliser, Chairman and CEO, Bentley Motors
Impact on luxury car market and Bentley’s new plan
The Bentley Torcal will be slightly smaller in size than the company’s current flagship SUV ‘Bentayga’, which is expected to be around 5 meters long. The company wants to attract young luxury car buyers globally through this model. Earlier, Bentley had set a target of becoming a completely electric brand by the year 2030, but in view of the changing market conditions and fluctuations in EV demand globally, the company has changed its strategy. Now the company aims to achieve complete electrification by the year 2035, under which after this first electric SUV, a new plug-in hybrid or fully electric model will be introduced every year.
