Between home and family, Matt Henry took the Kiwi team to the final

Kolkata Kolkata: New Zealand’s Matt Henry acted as a doting father to his newborn son at home and helped his team reach the T20 World Cup final, all in a span of just five days.

Pace spearhead Henry returned figures of 2-34 in New Zealand’s emphatic nine-wicket win over South Africa in the first semi-final in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Opener Finn Allen scored the fastest century of the T20 World Cup so far in 33 balls and took his team to the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, where they will face either India or England.

Henry’s bowling effort was special after returning to the team late the day before the match.

He took to the field less than 24 hours after returning home for the birth of his second child following New Zealand’s final Super Eights match against England on 27 February.

Smiling, Henry told reporters, “To be honest, I felt very sleepy on the way back.” “So yeah, just focusing on my family, going home, that was important for me, and then it happened that I was able to come back for the semi-finals, so it’s great to be here.”

Henry and his wife Holly Caron have a son.

“They’re doing great, so yeah, it was pretty special for him to be able to go home,” said Henry, 34.

“Obviously Holly is doing great and Jack is great too and Annabel is enjoying being a big sister, so all is well.”

New Zealand has reached its second T20 World Cup final. They lost the title match to Australia in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.

“It’s very special to get to another final, the boys are very excited but for now just enjoy this (win),” Henry said. “I think the boys played very good cricket.

“Finn was tremendous, so we’ll enjoy that and then we can move on and get ready for what’s to come.” (AFP)
