'Bhagirath Prayas' in Prayagraj, 3 streams of Ganga had gone astray… one was done – Read

‘Bhagiratha Prayas’ has been done for the divine and grand Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. The streams of river Ganga flowing in three streams at Sangam Nose have been made to flow into one stream. In fact, from Shastri Bridge in Prayagraj to Sangam Nose, river Ganga was divided into three streams, due to which not only the purity was being affected. In fact, there were difficulties in organizing the Mahakumbh. In such a situation, Ganga has been given its original form by making it flow again in a single stream. Now the river Ganga is flowing in a single stream at the Sangam nose.

From Shastri Bridge to Sangam Nose, the river Ganga was divided into three streams, due to which the fair area was becoming limited and disorganized. In such a situation, on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a plan was made to bring the left and right streams of Ganga into one flow to deal with this challenge. To realize the plan, the help of an expert team from IIT Guwahati was taken. Then, three huge dredging machines have been installed to expand the Ganga river flow in the confluence area.

Difficulties faced in the beginning

Initially, the fast flow of river Ganga and high water level was proving to be the biggest obstacle in this work. Due to this, it was becoming difficult to keep the dredging machines stable in the strong current and to mix the two streams of the river in the middle stream. On this, all three dredgers were deployed at different points near Shastri Bridge. Along with this, sand was required to expand the fair area.

resorted to many instruments

During the work, the heavy dredging machines were repeatedly becoming unstable due to the strong current of river Ganga. The discharge pipes would twist and the machines would become difficult to control. To face these challenges, the team took the help of big anchors and pontoon bridge. The dredgers were kept steady from the river banks using thick ropes.

The team did not lose patience, achieved success

While the dredging work was carried out on a war footing in three shifts, the team did not lose patience even when the spud (support pin) of one dredger was damaged due to the strong current and the other was pushed towards the shore. A fourth dredger was deployed, improving the speed and quality of work. Ultimately the three streams of Ganga were merged into one flow. At present, due to the flow of river Ganga in one stream, the fair area has got additional space of about 22 hectares.
