Chandigarh, March 2: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today congratulated the people of Punjab on the successful completion of one year of the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign and described it as a decisive and historic campaign towards freeing the state from the menace of drugs. On the occasion of the first anniversary of this mass movement launched by the Punjab Government, the Chief Minister said that this campaign has completely changed the direction of the fight against drugs in Punjab and the drug supply network has been strictly eliminated.
Biggest action ever
In a statement the Chief Minister said, “The war on drugs has been the biggest ever crackdown against drug networks in Punjab. Previous governments patronized the drug trade, ruining generations of the state. On the other hand, the Punjab government has broken the backbone of the drug trade by disrupting the drug supply line and putting behind the bars the big fish involved in this heinous crime.”
Campaign changed into mass movement
The Chief Minister said that a comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy was adopted to turn this campaign against drugs into a mass movement with the active support of the common people. He said that a zero-tolerance policy against the menace of drugs was implemented from March 2025 to February 2026, sending a strong message to the state.

The Chief Minister said that under this campaign, a total of 36,178 FIRs were registered against drug smugglers and 51,648 smugglers were arrested. Apart from this, 2,277 kg of heroin was seized and more than 49 lakh intoxicating pills and capsules were recovered.
Records in drug money and conviction rates
He further said that drug money worth Rs 16.70 crore has been recovered from drug smugglers and properties worth crores of rupees belonging to smugglers have been seized or demolished. The overall conviction rate under the NDPS Act has been around 84 percent, which with continuous improvement is expected to reach around 88 percent by the year 2025. The Chief Minister described this as evidence of strong case preparation and forensic cooperation.

The Chief Minister said that the present government will not allow smugglers to flourish at the cost of dead bodies and funeral pyres of drug victims. He clarified that strict example-setting action has been ensured against drug smugglers. Reiterating the determination of the Punjab government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed that this fight is to save the young generation of Punjab and it will be continued without any interruption.
