Bhubaneswar New Railway Station left underutilized despite its potential- ghost station in heart of city

Bhubaneswar, Dec 19:  While the main railway stations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are undergoing major renovations, another key piece of infrastructure in the state capital, the Bhubaneswar New Railway Station, continues to remain underutilized.

Despite its opening in 2018 and impressive infrastructure, including 7 platforms and 9 tracks, the station has not seen significant use over the past six years.

Designed to accommodate growing passenger traffic and ease congestion at the existing Bhubaneswar Railway Station, the new station has yet to reach its full potential.

It remains largely overlooked, with very few major trains operating from its premises and minimal developments aimed at transforming it into a functional transit hub.

Given its substantial infrastructure and strategic location, the government and railway authorities must re-evaluate the station’s potential.

The Bhubaneswar New Railway Station could play a pivotal role in alleviating pressure on the city’s existing stations and improving transportation services for the people of Odisha.

It is time for this neglected asset to receive the attention it deserves before its current disuse negatively impacts the region’s transportation system.
