Muslims live, namaz also happens… then why is no mosque built? Know the unique story of this neighboring country of India

Mosque Free Country: In most countries of the world, mosques are important centers of religious life for the Muslim community. But a unique truth about India’s neighboring country Bhutan may surprise people. People of Muslim community live here, despite this there is not a single official mosque in the entire country. In such a situation, the question arises that where do the Muslims living here offer namaz?

Why is there not a single mosque in Bhutan?

Bhutan, situated in the lap of the Himalayas, is famous throughout the world for its natural beauty, cultural heritage and the concept of ‘Gross National Happiness’. Most of the population here follows Buddhism. Apart from this, people of Hindu, Christian, Sikh and Muslim communities also reside in the country. According to the information, Muslim population in Bhutan is very less. For this reason no big mosque has been built here till now. However, this does not at all mean that the Muslim community does not have religious freedom.

Then where do Muslims offer namaz?

A special prayer complex has been built in Semtokha area near Bhutan’s capital Thimphu. There are separate prayer rooms available for people of different religions. People of the Muslim community offer namaz in the designated prayer rooms in this complex. Separate arrangements for worship and prayer have also been made for Hindu, Sikh and Christian communities.

Bhutan is an example of religious harmony

Bhutan is known for religious tolerance and social harmony. All religions are respected in the country and people have the freedom to follow their religious traditions. However, no major steps have been taken so far regarding the construction of mosques, the main reason for which is considered to be the limited Muslim population.

Is Bhutan the world’s first ‘mosque-free’ country?

It is often claimed on social media that Bhutan is the world’s first ‘mosque-free’ country. However, this claim is not considered completely accurate, because even in some other small countries of the world, the number of mosques is very less or non-existent. Still, the special thing about Bhutan is that despite not having a mosque here, the Muslim community has complete freedom to offer namaz and conduct religious activities.
