Big action by CM Vijay in Tamil Nadu, ordered to close liquor shops near temples, mosques, schools and bus stands.
Tezzbuzz Desk- After the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has indicated his working style by taking big and tough decisions as soon as he assumed office. Soon after taking oath, CM Vijay has issued an order to close the liquor shops running around public and sensitive places in the state.
As per the government order, a total of 717 TASMAC liquor shops will be closed in a phased manner across the state. These include shops which are located within 500 meters of sensitive places like temples, mosques, churches, schools, colleges and bus stands. The government has directed officials to complete this process within the next two weeks.
According to state government data, a total of 4,765 TASMAC liquor shops are currently operating in Tamil Nadu. Of the 717 shops to be closed, 276 are located near religious places, 186 near educational institutions and 255 near bus stands.
This decision taken by CM Vijay has come just hours after assuming office, which is being considered as the first major social reform step of the new government. The government says that the purpose of this decision is to reduce the availability of liquor in sensitive areas and to address social concerns.
After becoming the Chief Minister, Vijay has approved not only the liquor shops but also many other important policy decisions. These include approving 200 units of free electricity scheme for domestic consumers. Besides, it has also been decided to create a special security force for the safety of women. Apart from this, in view of the increasing menace of drug addiction in the state, it has also been announced to set up anti-drug units in every district.
CM Vijay also targeted the previous government in his first address. He said that the financial situation of Tamil Nadu has become very serious and the government will soon release a ‘white paper’, in which complete details of the economic situation from 2021 to 2026 will be given.
He claimed that the state has a debt of more than Rs 10 lakh crore and the treasury is almost empty, posing a serious economic challenge to the government.
These decisions of the new government are being seen as a major change in the politics of the state, and its political and social impact will remain under watch in the coming days.
